GEOHAB 2024 Conference “Marine Geological and Biological Habitat Mapping”

May 6 - May 10

This May, from the 6 to 19, 2024, the annual Marine Geological and Biological Habitat Mapping Conference will be held in Arendal, Norway.

GeoHab is an international association of marine scientists studying biophysical indicators of benthic habitats and ecosystem. Their main goals are:

  • Support the government spatial marine planning, sustainable ocean management and decision making.
  • Support the design of marine protected areas (MPAs).
  • Conduct scientific research programs aimed at generating knowledge of benthic ecosystems and seafloor geology.
  • Conduct seabed resources assessments for economic and management purposes.

This non-profit organization has emerged as a relevant platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the field of marine habitat mapping. With annual conferences held on various continents, they offer a unique opportunity for the gathering of experts and professionals committed to marine research and conservation. Their conferences are hosted by volunteers and sponsored by universities, government’s departments and their private sector industry partners.

On this event, the Work Package 2 leader, Andrew J. Wheeler (UCC) will deliver a presentation introducing TRIDENT to the GeoHab community. He will focus on the environmental baseline developed as part of the EU’s TRIDENT project.
