TRIDENT at ICUA 2026: Advancing Underwater Noise Reduction Research

TRIDENT project is being represented at the International Conference on Underwater Acoustics (ICUA 2026), taking place from 15 to 18 June 2026 in Glasgow, United Kingdom. This international event brings together leading researchers and experts to discuss the latest advances in underwater acoustics.

GREENOV is attending this event contributing to Work Package 3 (WP3), presenting ongoing research focused on innovative approaches to mitigating underwater noise pollution, one of the key environmental challenges affecting marine ecosystems.

The presentation “Transmission Optimization and Dispersion Analysis of Immersed Acoustic Metamaterials for Underwater Noise Reduction” is focused on addressing the growing issue of underwater noise pollution generated by maritime activities and its impact on marine life, by exploring the potential of acoustic metamaterials as a novel and effective solution for controlling and reducing sound propagation in aquatic environments. The research specifically investigates the design and optimization of arrays of immersed resonators (tubes) to enhance noise reduction within targeted frequency ranges, leveraging tube resonances, near-field interactions, and periodicity effects to maximise transmission loss and improve overall acoustic performance.

This work directly supports TRIDENT’s mission to develop innovative, efficient, and scalable technologies for reducing underwater noise pollution, contributing to the protection of marine ecosystems.
