On 29 September 2026, TRIDENT will host the online webinar “Unlocking Deep Sea Innovation in Europe”, bringing together experts from research, EU institutions and technological innovation to discuss the factors shaping the future of deep-sea technologies in Europe.

Using TRIDENT as a concrete case study and drawing on experiences from other European initiatives, the webinar will explore:
- Key technical, financial, regulatory and market barriers and enablers affecting deep-sea innovation.
- How EU regulatory and financial frameworks shape the pathway from research to deployment.
- The dual-use potential of deep-sea technologies and the interaction between civil and defence ecosystems.
- Stakeholder perspectives on how to strengthen Europe’s innovation ecosystem in this field.
The webinar will be moderated by La Palma Rsearch Centre (LPRC), and will bring together TRIDENT partners from INESC TEC and the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), who will present TRIDENT innovations and discuss some of the challenges involved in advancing deep-sea technologies. They will be joined by representatives from DG MARE and DG DEFIS, as well as experts on technological innovation and dual use, providing different perspectives on the regulatory, financial, and innovation frameworks shaping the sector.
The programme will also include Q&A sessions and an open discussion, providing participants with the opportunity to contribute their perspectives.
